TROUBLE WITH BONES

Characters travel to the Landon farm, now abandoned, only to find that the remains of Alastor Landon’s kin have been recently excavated. After the characters encounter an injured and hostile owlbear lairing in a nearby farmhouse, a dismembered arm held a clue as to who might have stolen the remains. The arms has a tattoo of a gang of thugs who work for Balabar Smenk, an unscrupulous Mine Baron with a dangerous reputation. Characters are able to get the one of the gang members to talk. He reveals that the remains were taken to an associate of Smenk’s, a necromancer named Filge, who was holed up in the abandoned observatory outside of Diamond Lake.
Characters raided the observatory and confront Filge and his undead minions. The fight ends in a stalemate with Filge giving up the bones in exchange for the characters letting him go and leaving Diamond Lake. Unbeknownst to Filge, the characters also leave with a lot of his treasure including his spellbook and some of his correspondence with Smenk.*
After burying the bones, the characters return to the tomb and the hidden chamber. The secret door is opened. After fighting the tomb’s guardians and almost getting Morwenna killed, the party was able to claim the tomb's ancient treasures as their own.
*One of these letters mentions a dragon egg. This is the first mention of Morwenna’s reason for consulting with Allustan and her overall quest – to find the thief who took a dragon egg, an act that ultimately led to the death of her mentor and dozens of innocents.
