STUMBLE INTO THE VOID

Characters head back to Hommlet and inquire after Maridosen only to be told that she had abruptly left town the morning the character had set off for the Moathouse. Over the next couple of days, the characters look into Maridosen’s activities in the village. Kozgrove they give some gold and send on his way.

Goodwife Ingrith tells the party that Maridosen often visited the cabin of Simeon, a hunter/poacher who lived in the woods about a mile from Hommlet. The characters investigate the cabin, where a trap had been set for them. Inside the cabin the floor gave way sending the entire party down into a cavern 60ft below. Bruised and battered, the party hears laughter and a voice that states:

You have made the Tattered Prince angry. Twas you who have vexed his lady’s plans, killing her servant in the tomb, killing her followers in the forgotten temple and now thwarting her plans in the Moathouse.

You have given him cause to open one of the secret ways. To visit vengeance on you and the town above.

Your doom is coming. Hope you don’t mind me watching…from a distance of course.

Searching the caverns the party encounters another aberration - a grell - that they dispatch. They then stumble upon an ancient stone door etched with green glowing runes. The door is open and leads to a strange realm where islands of stone floated in an airy void. Characters headed to the nearest floating island which was connected to their doorway by a stone bridge. Most of the small island was taken up by ancient ruin. On the island the party fought and defeated demon-like creatures, as well as an opportunistic archer with a longbow (probably Simeon). They then had to fight a large blue scaled creature with features both batrachian and saurian. Ren identified the beast as a Slaad. The party dispatched the beast, but not without some difficulty.

Finally, the party found itself in a room with an altar upon which was a desiccated body. Above the altar a shadowy horror of black tendrils floated. On the far side of the altar stood a tall man in multicolor robes, on his head was an iron crown that went over his eyes, the tines of the crown were bent and skewed, in his left hand he carried a staff. A battle ensued as most of the party fought the fell creature that floated above the altar while Ren fought the crowned man. Xadin, Morwenna, and Kelton dispatched the creature, while Ren forced the man to apperate away. On the altar, Xadin was able to identify the sacrifice as Kozgrove Willip…

Using a strange key they found in the altar room, the characters were able to close and lock the stone door. In Hommlet they are hailed as heroes…
