MOATHOUSE OF THE CHAOS QUEEN

After Haldain’s death, the party travels to the village of Hommlet, a small village in the Kingdom of Furyondy. This was Morwenna’s idea as she wanted to follow up on the lead the party found in the Dourstone Mines - a map that showed Hommlet circled in ink and the words “Old Castle N.E.” written next to it. She even hired a mercenary of some skill to join the party, a warrior by the name of Xadin.

The party finds the village to be pleasant. At the Inn of the Welcome Wench they discover that the only fortification north east of the village is the old Moathouse, a ruin of ill repute. The party investigates the Moathouse and encounter a dragon (!) which they force to flee. Below the ruins they discover catacombs which are overrun by undead and cultists that are members of the Cult of the Sleeping Lady, a secret cult dedicated to Maldrinax, the Demon Queen of Chaos. One large ancient chamber appears to have once been a temple dedicated to the Demon Queen. The characters are able to dispatch most of the cultists and their minions (an ogre and a strange one eyed aberration) as well as the undead.

One of the cultists surrenders to the party. He introduces himself as Kozgrove (of Willip). Recruited from the slums of Crockport, Kozgrove claimed he did not know what he was getting into when he joined the cult. He revealed to the party that “the Fane” was almost certainly the Crimson Fane, an ancient fortress said to be made of red stone. Kozgrove had been told that the Fane was where the leaders of the cult resided, it was also where the cult’s most holy relics were kept. It was located in the Rakers Mountains on the border of the Theocracy of the Pale (hundreds of miles to the northeast). He also reveals that the cult had spies in Hommlet including a woman who worked at the ‘Inn of the Welcome Wench’, a barkeep by the name of Maridosen. The characters are familiar with her, having talked with the barkeep the night before.
